On September 10, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research) in the Swiss-French border will be switched on to recreate the Big Bang, giving scientists the opportunity to explore and learn more about the secrets of the universe. The collider, built 325 feet underground and shaped like a circular tunnel, will smash sub-atomic particles together in a speed that is nearly as fast as the speed of light. The explosion that will be generated will give scientists new ideas about dark matter, anti-matter, and possibly about parallel universe/s.

This is pretty interesting and exciting indeed. We are now closer to understanding the vast mysteries of the universe. It’s always nice to learn new discoveries about our planet and the galaxy. And contrary to what the naysayers claim, I don’t think it will be the end of the world once the collider achieved its purpose. I mean, the physicists involved in the project have assured the public that it will be safe. Granted the explosion may trigger the creation of black holes, these black holes will be tiny and unstable enough and dissolve quickly.

Went to SM Science Discovery Center last Saturday with a couple of friends. We had a meeting with someone who works there so we got in for free. We had the opportunity to look around the center after the meeting and I must say, the place looked promising. As someone who likes sci-fi, I was thrilled to be there and see the items and educational materials on display. However, we only got to see a small portion of the entire area as there was an ongoing event at the center that time and we didn’t want to disrupt. There were also kids there who were on a school tour. Still, it was cool to see robots on display. I took a particular liking on the robot from the Terminator movie that was on display as I am a fan of the said film and TV franchise (except for that boring third installment of the movie). I would love to return there and explore the rest of the center, hopefully soon…
