So American scientists just recently announced that they are near to developing an artificial life form that could aide in creating a cure for illnesses as well as global warming. This artificial life form was based on a synthetically made DNA of a bacteria called Mycoplasma genitalium (Read the full story here.)
If these scientists succeeded in creating an artificial life form, then it won’t be long before scientists can clone humans. And if that happens, then we are close to looking at a new world where humans are grown (very much like The Matrix and Kyle XY) and not born. This is a rather scary thought. However well-meaning the intention of these scientists are, sooner or later there’s no stopping other scientists (or even political figures) of taking advantage of scientific breakthroughs such as this and use it for their own selfish needs.

Well it’s been two days since my birthday and I must say, I had a fun celebration. But my birthday celebration wasn’t glitz and glamour or anything like that. What happened was a simple get-together with new and old friends alike. Actually, the celebration was kinda unique since it was rather a protracted one. I had a pre-birthday celebration last Saturday. I met with my two friends Andy and Mela and we spent a few hours at the salon pampering ourselves (they each had a pedicure while I had my hair treatment). My plan to get hair highlights was postponed as expected due to the condition of my hair. The hairstylist told me to go back after two weeks. After the trip to the salon, we went shopping a bit and dined out.
Then my actual birthday came. There was a simple gathering with my friends at the office and we had a fun (not to mention boisterous!) celebration. But the celebration didn’t end there. I also met with my other friends for a quiet dinner that night at Gerry’s Grill. The next day was my office friend Lady’s birthday and it was decided before that we merge our birthday blowout on her birthday. So the result was another boisterous gathering at the office pantry. And finally last night I treated my housemates to a pizza as promised. It was a quiet late birthday celebration and I had a good time talking with my housemates. Whew! Talk about a prolonged birthday! Well for me it was worth it since we only celebrate our birthdays once a year and it’s not every day that I turn (ehem, insert age here), hehe. It was another experience for me – a happy and fun one.

At last! After six years since the show ended, The X-Files movie sequel is underway. Shooting for the movie sequel started last December 10, 2007 but photos of Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny together in the scene did not surface until now. It’s so thrilling to see Mulder and Scully together again. And Gillian went back to being a redhead, hehe. Nice! She looked sort of different in these photos. Her hair is longer and straighter — not the usual Scully look that we fans were used to. And David looked older. But no matter. I’m just so excited to watch this movie sequel. I can’t wait to see it! I just hope that since this is a stand-alone movie and will not touch up on the TV show’s mythology, they will be able to pull it off and make it a box office hit.

My birthday is coming up and I’m thinking of doing something outrageous (well in my case anyway). Last year, I got a tattoo as a birthday gift for myself. This year, I’m thinking of dyeing my hair red (well not totally dye it; I’m thinking more of getting highlights) but I’m still having second thoughts. I mean, I’ve never done this before and I’m not sure if I can pull it off. (*Sigh* Somehow, I can’t get rid of my “sweet” image.) But even if I finally decide to get highlights, that would still depend on what the hairstylist would tell me. I got my hair straightened six months ago so getting highlights could mean my hair might have a reaction on the chemicals. My hair might still have residue of the hair straightening chemicals and dyeing it might damage my hair. I still have to consult a hairstylist about this. But I’m really hoping that I could get highlights this weekend.
