Crashing Waves

Getting the pay slip these days is not pleasant anymore. It actually becomes more and more depressing, especially once you know how much has been taken from your salary. Due to the global financial crisis, the company I work for has decided to cut down our work days as a cost-cutting measure. So now we’re only working four days a week instead of the usual five. And our salaries have been cut down also. The company reasoned that this is the best thing they could do to avoid retrenchments.

As understandable as this is, I still can’t help but feel kind of low about this. I know I’m still luckier than others who have lost their jobs. But coming from someone who pays the rent every month, this is still sad news. I, along with my coworkers, are definitely feeling the crunch. Hopefully things will get better in the coming months.
