‘Brighter, Bolder, Bettyer’

I can’t wait for the second season of Ugly Betty. The show’s Season 2 promo is pretty cute, hehe. It airs in the U.S. on September 27 on ABC. I just hope Studio 23 will locally air this soon. And by the way, I’m glad America Ferrera won the Lead Actress award during the recently concluded Emmy Awards. It’s just amazing that the show has just finished its first season and she already bagged an Emmy for it. She’s a great actress and she truly deserves it.
Larry is now Lana?

I just heard the news today over the radio that Larry Wachowski — the other half of the Wachowski brothers who were behind the success of The Matrix films — has now become a woman. Yup, this came as a shock to me since I’ve always known the Wachowski brothers to be straight males. I never knew theses rumors circling around them, especially about Larry. Well I guess that could be accounted by the fact that the brothers are very private about their personal lives. But apparently, these rumors have been going around since 2003 — right after the Hollywood premier of The Matrix Revolutions where Larry came to the premier looking like a woman with a more pronounced feminine features (I wasn’t able to see photos of this until now).

According to reports, Larry tended to cross dress and used to date a popular dominatrix (unbelievable, isn’t it?). The news further reported that it is now confirmed that Larry had a sex change and now wants to be called Lana. Up to now, I’m still reeling from this piece of interesting news. I mean, who would have thought that a guy who loves reading manga and watching anime would turn out to become a transsexual? I’ve never known a celebrity who had a sex change before. This is all new to me. But other reports have stated that this is not officially confirmed yet, that Larry has yet to make a public statement about it allegedly scheduled after the coming release of the updated film version of Speed Racer, which is directed by the two brothers.
Personally, my stand on this is that whatever the outcome, it would still not change the fact that I admire the Wachowski brothers for their talent — for their contribution to the science fiction genre. And The Matrix Trilogy would still remain as one of my favorite films.
It’s in the Genes
September 5, 2007 at 9:12 am09 | In Health, Science | Leave a CommentSo there is now a scientific explanation as to why some people I know don’t get fat no matter how much they eat.
Based on the reports of this new scientific discovery, I guess it’s safe to say that my adipose gene is functioning poorly. I used to be so skinny when I was a child and even throughout high school and college. But when I started working, I’ve put on a lot of weight and even came to a point that I became overweight. Dieting became so hard for me. It is only in recent years that I have gone back to my normal weight (well, nearly anyway). This new discovery sounds promising but I know that it will take years before scientists develop an effective treatment for obesity and regulating body weight.

It has been exactly a year ago today when Steve Irwin — the world’s most famous crocodile hunter — died of a diving accident. I remember it was a shock to me when I first found out about his death. I was channel surfing that day (yes I do this a lot) when I happened to catch a public announcement on Animal Planet about Steve’s death. I couldn’t believe it at first. But when every major news channel on TV reported it, I finally realized that it was true. The Crocodile Hunter was dead. I’m not exactly a fan of Steve Irwin but I do admire him. I watched his show once in a while because he used to amuse me as he was always so hyper and overexcited. He introduced a whole new approach to what could have been a boring TV program on wildlife conservation and such. He was so energetic and full of life. He is surely missed by millions of fans around the world.
